From Children North East
The Children North East Sandcastle Challenge is a reminder of the days when the charity was founded in 1891 as The Poor Children’s Holiday Association and we took poor children from the slums of Newcastle and Gateshead on a trip to the clean, fresh-air of the seaside. But this event now offers opportunities to all to be part of a really great fun day out supporting your local community.
The Sandcastle Challenge helps raise funds for and awareness of Children North East who as our regions very own independent children’s charity. We work with children, young people and their parents who are living in poverty or whose lives are disadvantaged because of family misfortune. We believe it is just not fair that some children do not get the same breaks and chances as their peers.
How the Sandcastle Challenge works
We invite Primary Schools from all over the region to join us at this fun event by entering a maximum of 4 teams (no more than 15 children per team). We match them up with creative minds from a variety of professions including construction, architecture and design to recreate a design in the sand. Last year over 1800 school children took part and finding ‘professional’ partners to support them is becoming increasingly harder as the volume of schools wishing to enter, grows.
We need your help!
As a professional partner we will link you to a local school and invite you to visit ‘your team’ before the event to meet the children & teachers, discuss their ideas around the theme and work with them to see how these ideas could be recreated in the sand. You are also invited to join your team at Sandhaven Beach, South Shields to show your support and to encourage them as there is a prize for 5 winning schools, provided by our sponsor. For the ‘professional’ partner there is also the chance to win the coveted bronze Sandcastle Trophy which you will hold for one year! For more information about the event or the work of Children North East please visit www.children-ne.org.uk
You can also view a short film from a previous Challenge which will give you an idea of just what to expect!
