Design Advice + Skills

Northern Architecture can provide support for housing providers wanting to achieve higher standards of design quality and sustainability. We can also help you work with tenants to build skills and identify opportunities for improvements that would make a significant difference to residents' quality of life. We are keen to work with you to support tenants to deliver their own design and improvement projects such as a community garden or lighting scheme.

Please contact Carol on 0191 260 2191 or carol@northernarchitecture.com

Northern Architecture can support developers on many levels of the housing delivery process. Our in-house and external consultants can provide expert advice on and assessments of current housing standards such as Code for Sustainable Homes, Lifetime Homes, Secure by Design and Building for Life. Northern Architecture can also provide and deliver public engagement programmes for schemes that sit within existing communities, larger staged developments or regeneration projects.

Northern Architecture continues to seek opportunities to work with residents and communities wishing to engage in the places and spaces around them.  In partnership we can work with you to seek funding to develop and deliver projects to enable and inspire residents and communities to get involved and take part in the process of design and development in your neighbourhoods. We can also provide training and support for groups to work with the local authority, planners, designers and developers working on schemes in your area.

The Programme also enables pupils to engage with and respond to buildings and the built environment through core curriculum subjects including English, Maths, Science, ICT and Design Technology.

Northern Architecture works alongside a cohort of volunteers who are budding design professionals, either newly qualified or part way through their training, to assist with the delivery of Northern Architecture's Education and Community Participation projects as well as events including The North East Festival of Architecture.

By working with selected groups, and passing on their industry focused knowledge and skills, volunteers gain an insight into the power of community participation by gaining practical experience of innovative and creative methods used to engage the public.

Each volunteer is entered for the V Award programme, a volunteering scheme accredited by Changemakers.

Please email sarac@northernarchitecture.com for more information on volunteering with Northern Architecture.  You may also want to read our guide to volunteering with Northern Architecture.
