Urban Translation Newcastle, as part of DE07
27th October 2007, PAST EVENT, Meet at Newcastle Civic Centre near the main entrance at 2pm
Northern Architecture invited Newcastle based writer Carol McGuigan, architect Tim Bailey and Tony Wyatt, head of Newcastle’s Urban Design team to develop an alternative public tour of Newcastle for DE07, Newcastle’s annual design festival.
A city can often be presented as a cosy, harmonious unfolding; with each age giving graciously in to the next, but the truth is nowhere as neat. A city isn’t one story; it’s several. And most of the stories don’t even finish before someone starts up a new one. This tour will explore some of these ideas and reveal some of the design decisions, both recent and historical, that have shaped the city.
This event is free but places are limited. Booking is essential - please click on 'limited spaces' to book.
This is a walking tour which includes slopes and steps, please contact us if you have any access requirements.
The tour will be directed at an adult audience but accompanied young people are welcome.
