Northern Architecture’s Education Officers continue to work on a project to engage young people with their built environment in Peterlee. In collaboration with the APCA (Apollo Pavilion Community Association) and practitioners Karen and John Topping, we have so far delivered 14 creative workshops as part of a two-year plan.

Students have had the opportunity to explore Victor Pasmore’s original 1960’s designs for the town and develop their own responses through creative mapping, drawing, graphic design and printmaking.

Artist Toby Paterson has begun the research phase of his project and will be making work in response to the Apollo Pavilion and the Sunny Blunts Estate to site at each of the three schools. The pieces will also be shown alongside student work at Durham Art Gallery in November.

Students and staff from East Durham College, St Bedes and Shotton Hall School will have the opportunity to work alongside Toby in future workshops and teacher CPD sessions.
