Education

Students and academics can use our case studies for research or education purposes and can use our library catalogue to view items available to borrow from our library of resources. Students have the opportunity to volunteer for Northern Architecture to support our education and community projects or to get involved in our GRADs programme. Visit the Recruitment page to find out more about opportunities.

Northern Architecture's Educaton Programme offers a wide range of fun and practical workshops, introducing pupils to some of the skills and techniques used by architects, designers and engineers, providing them with the knowledge and confidence to use them as part of their own design work.

The Programme also enables pupils to engage with and respond to buildings and the built environment through core curriculum subjects including English, Maths, Science, ICT and Design Technology.

Northern Architecture’s education team offers a range of services, resources and support to schools and teachers. Find out more by visiting the Education section of the website.

There are a range of opportunities for young people to find out more about Architecture and the Built Environment through our Education and Community programmes and the North East Festival of Architecture.

You can also register your interest in our new A-Good Group for 14-19yrs, by completing this form. The A-Good group will be ideal for young people interested in architecture, design, planning and the urban environment. We hope to launch the A-Good programme in 2011. A-Good members will be offered a series of events and activities about the design of buildings and places and the opportunitiy to work with a range of built environement professionals.

Northern Architecture works alongside a cohort of volunteers who are budding design professionals, either newly qualified or part way through their training, to assist with the delivery of Northern Architecture's Education and Community Participation projects as well as events including The North East Festival of Architecture.

By working with selected groups, and passing on their industry focused knowledge and skills, volunteers gain an insight into the power of community participation by gaining practical experience of innovative and creative methods used to engage the public.

Each volunteer is entered for the V Award programme, a volunteering scheme accredited by Changemakers.

Please email sarac@northernarchitecture.com for more information on volunteering with Northern Architecture.  You may also want to read our guide to volunteering with Northern Architecture.

Northern Architecture's Education and Community programmes can support you in providing opportunities for young people to get involved in the Built Environment, to lead their own projects, develop skills and make a positive contribution to their community.
